11 Find Her
Darkness.
The groggy effects of the stun shot were starting to wear off and Suki was conscious first of her rigid clothing tight against her skin then of the soft cotton of the pillow. The pillow? She could hear the engine. The soft bumping every now and again told her that she was moving in a vehicle. Her compartment was no more than six feet long, four feet wide and a few feet tall. She couldnât really move but could turn over to examine for more clues as to her predicament. The hard metallic edges on the outer side of her skirt hooked her skin as she rolled 180° onto her front and shrugged off the thick blanket to one side of the compartment.
Dylan tugged again at his cap, the angle becoming ever more vertical over his nose with each passing alteration. No doubt he was subconsciously trying to hide his face. He smiled as another light turned from red to green just in time for him to roll right through at the speed limit of 60 mph. The sign for 678 Whitestone Bridge came into view. Dylan winced as he heard the sounds. Checking his watch, he was now plus 38 minutes, and the stun shot had worked a little longer than he had calculated. No matter, he had planned for the eventuality, and would be administering another one very soon via the hand-operated rig he had built into his coffin-style trap. However, his absolute plan was for Suki to get out very much alive.
âPlease be quiet. You are safeâ¦. if you stay quiet.â
âHELP!â
âThatâs not quiet now, is it? Now stay quiet!â His calm tone remained as he ended the sentence with a menacing flourish and the cab was once again filled with the gentle hum of the tyres on the road below.
âGood.â He paused to ensure she would indeed carry out his wishes.
Silence.
âYou are safe. We are going on a long journey. When we arrive at our destination, I will tell you everything. Until then, please relax and get some sleep. You will feel groggy for a time due to the stun shot I gave you for your safety.â
Sukiâs eyes were wide open now, and they were starting to adjust to the pitch black. She could make
